[His face twists, because of all the outcomes here, he didn’t want Flayn to feel more guilt? That was kind of the plan too. That it might make things seem more hopeful for her too. Now there’s really only his word and it’s not got the best stock behind it at this moment.]
It was obvious. I think some people just didn’t want to see it. Um, that the only way they can deal with it is by telling themselves there’s some sense to the murder thing.
...has it not been made obvious enough to them that this entire thing is senseless? It should have been obvious from the beginning.
[like. back when they were forced into a murder competition because of an accidental death? that was senseless. it has only been more and more senseless ever since.]

Dimitri was smarter than the lot of them, and for that, uh, we’ll give him some credit. Hopefully he can convince them on the other side. For what it’s worth, I’m glad you’re still here. We need you. I know you want . . . I know you want to make it easy for them, that you’d die for them and all that, but they don’t need your life too. You’ve given a lot already.
the six of them - seven, counting shinobu - they have blood on their hands. there isn't any denying that. it's been said before, that they've killed so that the others wouldn't have to. flayn can't quite bring herself to say it, herself, but she's not able to stop remembering that, either.]
The tasks we have been entrusted with have... taken, a lot from all of us. [...] I do not think they need your life, either. Or Magnus's, or... any of ours.
[but that doesn't leave them anywhere useful, which is kind of how they ended up in the "scapegoating kara" situation in the first place. yikes!]
Is it selfish to wish that... if it was going to turn out this way, we had not spent Dimitri's life to do it?
No— and if it was, don’t think there’s anything wrong with being selfish either. Selfish is what got me this far in life. Selfish isn’t always bad, you know. It’s like, you can pick and choose what you care about, and you get to pick what’s important.
[unrelated to everything but every time i tab into this catchall i get really hungry. goddamnit.
anyway, flayn nods slowly at that.]
...Dimitri is important. [that's what she's picking.] No matter how this turns out... at the very least, I will save him. It does not matter what it takes.
[anyway should he feel slightly guilty for teaching Flayn the skill `selfish.` He should, but he doesn’t.]
You can’t give everything to everyone— just happens that if you pick the right things to be selfish about, you’ll probably help a few other people along the way entirely by accident?

[Very dry, but. A Joke occurs. Wow!]

[Flayn nods slowly at that. She's said something similar to someone else, before - but it's harder to accept it when it comes to herself.]
...I certainly hope that you are right about that.

[The question remains exactly how far that is.]

[Taako is just propelling them all across the finish line, honestly.]
