And the classes were mostly on combat, is that right? [ trying to remember...! he wants to keep all of these little details flayn tells him as carefully as possible, treasure them. ]
Yes. Pegasi are... they are like horses, with wings. Wyverns are similar to dragons, but much smaller, and they bond with certain people - they can be ridden into battle.
My [checks the date on this thread] brother is a skilled wyvern rider!
[ O:!!! look at him, he looks genuinely curious. yin yu really has never heard of either of these things. ]
Do these wyverns - [ the word's a little foreign in his mouth, but, he tries to imitate flayn's pronunciation properly. ] - have wings, as well? A winged horse sounds like something the gods in the heavens would want to have...
They do! They are valiant steeds - faithfully carrying their riders wherever they may need to go, soaring through the skies no matter how stormy the weather...
...There are many stories of dragons in our homeland as beings of great power and prosperity, and they are often associated with the gods, but I have rarely seen any myself. Even so, the ones depicted never have wings. [ he can almost imagine, if he thinks about it enough.
...he likes them too, even if it's for entirely different reasons. ] I would quite like to see one of these, some day.
[something about that seems to amuse her - the corners of her lips tug up into a smile. if only he knew.]
Well, wyverns are quite a common sight in my homeland - if you do make it to Fódlan, after this, perhaps I can teach you to ride them, and we can sneak away from the monastery to the coast before my brother notices.
anyway, he knows that flayn's brother can be quite overprotective from the way she talks of him, but... ] ...While I am quite good at sneaking around, were such a thing to happen, I am not so sure I'd want to make an enemy of your elder brother...
[ maybe it would be better to ask.
though, alternatively, maybe he just wouldn't even know yin yu is there. or would, more likely, turn him into ash on the spot for being not nearly good enough to even be in flayn's presence. all three of those things seem likely. ]
Oh, I am sure you would not be making an enemy of him!
[...
she pauses.]
...well, perhaps it would be better to simply cover our tracks very, very carefully. It is nothing against you, but my brother is highly opposed to my leaving the monastery without him.
[ he is not going to point out how flayn has clearly left the nest and how she has clearly been in danger very often... but, that is true, she shouldn't be cooped up like some caged bird.
her comment about him being able to protect her pleases him a little, but he demurs it as ever, ducking his head. ] I think in this case you may be the one who would be assuring any safety. I can tell you with certainty I have never ridden on anything sentient that could fly, ever.
[ there's a save a horse ride a dragon joke here but i'm too embarrassed to make it ]
[curses. the stable wasn't open yet in week 2 i'm pretty sure.]
You have not? ...I wish there were horses here! Dimitri and I could have taught you. ...well, perhaps mostly Dimitri. He is rather skilled at horsemanship, you know!
watching flayn's excitement over the horses is pretty charming. ] Is that so? Lord Dimitri seems quite skilled at many things. It would be an honor to learn from either of you.
[ he would! spending time with lady flayn is already nice, and he respects dimitri greatly. ] If there's something I can teach the two of you in exchange, I'd be happy to do so.
[ something he could teach her... yin yu tilts his head, thinking for a possible skill to teach that might compare. ]
I'm passingly good at many things, my lady, though I am no master at most. Besides martial techniques, I've studied the arts of cultivation the best that I can, so... poetry, calligraphy, playing the guqin, things along such lines.
[ he ends up giving her a small smile. ] You've taught me many things already, my lady. This one is very thankful.

They keep pegasi and wyverns at the monastery that are trained for battle.

I've never heard of either of those. Are they creatures?

Oh, it really is not difficult at all! I am sure you shall excel at it. It is quite similar to riding a horse.
