[curses. the stable wasn't open yet in week 2 i'm pretty sure.]
You have not? ...I wish there were horses here! Dimitri and I could have taught you. ...well, perhaps mostly Dimitri. He is rather skilled at horsemanship, you know!
watching flayn's excitement over the horses is pretty charming. ] Is that so? Lord Dimitri seems quite skilled at many things. It would be an honor to learn from either of you.
[ he would! spending time with lady flayn is already nice, and he respects dimitri greatly. ] If there's something I can teach the two of you in exchange, I'd be happy to do so.
[ something he could teach her... yin yu tilts his head, thinking for a possible skill to teach that might compare. ]
I'm passingly good at many things, my lady, though I am no master at most. Besides martial techniques, I've studied the arts of cultivation the best that I can, so... poetry, calligraphy, playing the guqin, things along such lines.
[ he ends up giving her a small smile. ] You've taught me many things already, my lady. This one is very thankful.
[she smiles back at him, and gives his hand a very light squeeze.]
...you have taught me many things already, too.
[she hopes she'll never have cause to use most of them (although, when it comes down to it - in a few weeks, she will). she hopes she can learn more peaceful skills from him.]
I did not realize you were a poet. [she smiles] Perhaps you could recite a poem you have written?
[ oh. yin yu ducks his head, his ears turning a little pink. ]
...It's been a very long time since I've written any. [ haha what is inspiration. ] I'm not sure if I could recite anything from memory, now. My apologies...
Certainly not. [ he can see flayn being good at it. she seems the observant type. ] We never learn much of anything if we don't try.
[ once upon a time, yin yu taught pupils and disciples in many skills, beyond just the martial. as a head disciple, it was his duty to make sure they picked up on the skills necessary to become good cultivators. to be good, upright, moral gentlemen, who were as well spoken as they were good in the martial arts. he may not have always been successful (in particular, there was one exception who achieved the latter far more than the former), but it had been a part of his life that was deeply, deeply fulfilling. he's always tried to be thoughtful. he's tried to be wise. if nothing else, he always tried. ]
So we shall. [ haha. well! he will. he will try. maybe finding inspiration will be a little easier, nowadays. ] Typically, I would write about nature, or balance and harmony if I could observe it. Like many things, it's about how observant you can be of the world around you.
[ he takes a sip of his tea, thoughtfully. ] Is there something in particular you would like to write about, Lady Flayn?
I had not really thought that far ahead, if I am being honest...
[she was more excited about the concept of writing poems with yin yu than she was about coming up with a subject. but now that they're on the topic... hm.]
I suppose... I would want to find something beautiful to write about. It is the quiet, simple things that bring people strength in situations like this, even if they can be hard to find.
[ ah, good. he ends up smiling a little, encouraging. ]
I agree. [ the quiet things in life do make things a little nicer, don't they? there are things to appreciate. even yin yu, who has been more or less an emotional void for the past few hundred years, has felt the same. he may not be writing poetry, but that doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy the small things that he can. a food stall where the owners greet him raucously. the taste of hot pot in the winter. the way the moon reflects off of the water when he's out scouting.
it's the small things you wouldn't notice, unless you really looked for them. ] ...There are many things people don't notice, because they don't take the time to observe them. If you look hard enough, you can find beauty in almost anything. I think it can be quite inspiring, even if takes some practice to notice.
I am sure you must have noticed many things like that.
[yin yu is, after all, an observant person. she's not sure there's anything he won't notice, eventually.
...it's comforting to think about it that way. whatever may come during their time here - she's sure that with yin yu's help, they can get to the bottom of it.
(let me tell you, that's a wild sentence to write knowing that he's going to wind up dead in a few ic weeks.)]
Not so recently, perhaps. [ it would be nice, if being observant would make any of this simpler... solving these crimes would be much easier. then again, it's not as if many of the 'abilities' and roles and such around make it all that easy...
well. that's something to think about later, and not ruin this nice pleasant moment with. ] We can take a walk through the camp and see if anything feels inspiring, if that might help...? I find the fresh air helps me relax, too.
[ he doesn't even bat an eye, as he takes it--in fact, it just sort of feels natural. yin yu glances over at flayn, and then gives her a smile as he does.
flayn's the kind of person that makes it hard to be unhappy. a light, that brightens every room, even someone as dark as himself. ] Let's.
[and so they go for a walk! this would have been a good point to end the thread, probably, but flayn has still not been allowed the sweet embrace of death, so i'm dragging this out so i can continue invading your inbox.]

Oh, it really is not difficult at all! I am sure you shall excel at it. It is quite similar to riding a horse.
no subject
...I can't say I've ever done that, either.
[ he sounds a little embarrassed... look it's just not that common for normal people ]

[if he's teaching her something, though, that means they'll get to spend more time together. hmm.]
But in exchange, the pleasure of your company would be more than enough.
