[Hi, Giyuu. Here's Flayn, carrying a very sharp stick that looks almost like a javelin. She's walking along the path toward the bridge, and comes across him there.]
[ hm. you know, after what has gone on about people being dead and all of that loveliness, he should (and is) more aware of people who are wandering around with sharp things in their hands.
...is he really going to think that she killed the people, though? depends on what happens tomorrow, but for now he'll acknowledge her with weary nod. ]
Would you patrol the river with me? It sounds as though tomorrow may be... difficult, so we will need to keep our strength up. I was hoping to catch some fish so that we can eat well tonight in preparation for it.
and while he should keep up his patrol of the island just for his mind, he is highly interested in the idea of fish because if there's nothing he doesn't like better than various things, is fish. giyuu is here for fish. ...especially salmon. ]
[ until otherwise stated, giyuu will definitely keep her safe and sound especially since dimitri likes her and he likes dimitri. oh how quickly others affect some of his decision making.
but once they are at the river and flayn gives the instructions (not that he needs any but he'll let her have it), he'll give a nod. he really wants to see if she can spear a fish. it will be so funny and impressive and probably scary all at the same time.
...so, let's have her spear a fish as he motions to a wriggly oblong shadow. hopefully fish and not other river creature. ]
anyway, she watches the shadow he indicates. the fish swims back and forth a bit, and she takes a few moments to memorize its movements.
once she's used to them, she nods to herself, and snaps the makeshift javelin down into the water. she's aiming for where she expects the fish to move to - and she's done this often enough that she's getting quite good at predicting it. it impales it straight through.
she hefts a piranha up and out of the water.]
There, you see? I am a master fisher! [yes. that's... that's definitely the case. she eyes the fish.] ...my, but it has some sharp teeth.
giyuu isn't too sure what to expect when she takes her stance and sizes up the fish. is she really going to be able to spear it like that? it seems like she has done it before, and whatever doubts that he had dissipate as she strikes. yep, she totally knew how to use that spear.
it's unfortunate that she only manages to get smaller(?) fish. at the same time, he has no idea what kind of fish it is. ]
You are quite good with that.
[ he can't help but want to get a closer look at what she caught. ]
so her mother was a fisher(wo)man, or at least did plenty of fishing. that means she lived somewhere coastal, right? it means nothing to him right now so he'll excuse it for the fish. ]
Neither have I. [ and like any reasonable human being that likes fish would ask: ] Will it taste good?
[ do you ever just think about all of the things we eat now and just have to come to terms with someone had to be the first person to be like, "man i wonder what this would taste like"? ]
The other fish I have taken from this river have tasted well enough.
[google says some people eat piranhas... apparently they've very salty, very fishy ("five days in the sun salmon fishy with an aftertaste of seaweed and blood" is how one place described it????? yikes), and have a very ripe flavor]
It should be possible to cook this in the same way, though it does not appear that we will get much meat out of it...
[ YES! jk no bc apparently dimitri is camp mom and they're married? chat is so cursed, britt.
but hm. giyuu hasn't been as lucky so he'll just have to take her word for it. ]
The size of the fish does not indicate how it may taste.
[ boy are they in for a ride when they take a bite into that fish shaped salt...flesh thing. i'm crying. at least they are going to suffer together and learn from their mistakes?? ]
[ well, giyuu will inform her that it probably isn't her cooking and that maybe the fish is just not good to eat. ]
I can.
[ building a fire is no big deal now compared to the first time. first of all, they're dry but most importantly, he found flint to use to start fires with ease. he'll start to rummage around and clearing out an area suited for a mini camp fire just for cooking the fish short term.
amazing what a simple rock can do to make a world's different in terms of starting fires. ]
she follows him, carting the piranha on a stick around with her. luckily he has both the experience and the tools he needs to get a fire going.
while he's sorting that out, she'll get to work on skinning and deboning the fish. she hums to herself as she works, then looks over at the fire as he gets it to spark.]
[ he'll let her prep the fish, which is definitely for the best since his idea would just be to skewer it on a stick and stick it next to the fire once it got going and called it a day.
but once she's done with that and back at his side, he'll give a nod. ]
It's because of these.
[ he holds the flint for her to see, if she wishes, before tucking them away into his haori. ]
[she looks at the flint as he holds it out, then nods]
Ah, yes... having the proper tools makes everything much easier.
[she wishes she had the proper tools for cooking!!!
...though she does, at least, manage to skin and debone the fish without too much nonsense, if only because there isn't a lot of fish to begin with, so she's being extra careful about each of her knife cuts. it's the actual cooking itself that she's really going to struggle with.]
[ seeing that's he doesn't have much more to add to that, he'll sit contently by the fire and making sure it stays in check as she preps the fish. he can't help but really do wonder what it might taste like. the hope that it will taste good.
...the reality will be that it will not taste good. a terrible fate that they'll figure out shortly. though, he does have to quietly admire the way that she's handling the fish. definitely has a lot of practice. ]
[ how can fish that has not been seasoned properly taste like it has been rolled in salt and then have an aftertaste that is...tangy? tangy is a word, though the best description would be iron. ]
It's fine.
[ it, in fact, not fine. the fact that he isn't going back for a second bite is a prime example of how it is not fine. however she did catch this fish for them and... he does have some manners. ]
[ he's not going to say if she's a good or bad cook unless she's magically able to make fish just taste this awful without doing anything to it. and if that is the case then he's just amazed for a different reason.
also cue giyuu making a single more attempt at eating another bite before quickly deciding that, no, that would be a bad idea. ]
I don't think your cooking had any effect on the fish.
[ he says, now taking another bite from the fish in retaliation. ]
This fish is not good.
[ why does he keep going back for more? look. sometimes nice girls make you fish and then you just feel compelled to keep being polite and nice because they've done nothing wrong. ]
[ the color of his face is starting to change from the fish. is there enough water in their canteens to quench his thirst from the fish? who knows but he'll nod at flayn. ]
and we already know what's going to happen to him in the near future so he's just going to...finally take a drink of water from his canteen once the fish has been eaten. he does not look any better, if you care to know. ]
w1, post-death announcement
[Hi, Giyuu. Here's Flayn, carrying a very sharp stick that looks almost like a javelin. She's walking along the path toward the bridge, and comes across him there.]

Okay.
[ time to go spear fishing..!! ]
no subject
Really?! Wonderful!
[onward they go, then! surely no one can complain if she's wandering the island with giyuu. he'll... keep her safe. won't he?
at any rate, they soon wind up at the riverside, and flayn readies her makeshift spear.]
If you spot a shadow that might be a fish, say the word. I will catch us something truly delicious!
