[WELL WHEN SHE SAYS IT LIKE THAT!!! He takes a short pit stop in the kitchen on their way up and out of the basement before they go outside. Apple acquired. He hands it to Flayn before he starts trudging across the yard. He is walking... very very far away?? Ogata.]
Anyway, Ogata stops when he's about 200 meters away. Well within his claimed guaranteed headshot range. This target is smaller than a human head, after all. But he still wants to show off. He drops into his signature shooting position, sighting down the barrel of the gun. He actually doesn't aim at Flayn first. He hasn't used this particular gun before, so he shifts focus to a tree near where she's standing and plugs two shots into the bark, getting a sense of the rifle and it's particular inclination.
And then, after a quiet few seconds, he adjusts and points the gun in Flayn's direction. Without any warning, he fires. It's just a moment later the bullet thunks into the apple and falls to the ground off of Flayn's head.]
[I ask myself that every day I have been deliberately putting her in danger so someone will decide she's an easy target and finish her off and that hasn't gotten me anywhere!!!
Anyway. Flayn should probably be more nervous about this than she is, but she's not. Instead, she's just kind of excited to see what he'll do, and she stays perfectly still as he fires two shots into the tree before turning the gun on her.
A moment later, the bullet strikes the apple and it falls to the ground. Her whole face lights up.]
Marvelous! You truly are a skilled marksman, Ogata!
[The problem is that she is too precious and kind and even top tier bastards like Ogata don't want to harm her.
Anyway it takes Ogata a moment to walk over to her, and he's honestly surprised by her enthusiasm. But he also looks pleased? Turns out the cat man responds well to praise? Who could have guessed.]
Of course. I wouldn't lie about something like that.
Well... yes! It is possible to recover from an injury. If it gets them to stop whatever they were doing to make you be aiming at them in the first place, then...
Sure, but an injury could leave someone paralyzed or otherwise disabled. Or they could live with the pain of a poorly healed injury for the rest of their lives.
More importantly, they're more likely to retaliate against me if I leave them alive than to disengage.
[Ogata just leaves his borrowed gun resting against a tree. It's whatever. This is all fake anyway.]
It's fine... I rather enjoyed it. [Turning away and walking towards the portal hoping he can outrun her before she presses further on that response!!!!]

...Probably.
[A beat, because he really wasn't expecting her to agree to that.]
Do you really trust me to not simply just shoot you instead?

And what if I miss?
[SERIOUSLY, FLAYN, DON'T LET HIM DO THIS.]

You could certainly have no reason to lie! Your skill is admirable - you should be honest about it.
no subject
I wouldn't think you'd have such an appreciation for a skill that's only good for ending lives.
no subject
And being able to aim as you are, you would certainly be able to incapacitate someone, rather than kill them.
no subject
But ah, I see, injuring someone is better than killing them, is it?
no subject
[that's better, isn't it?]

[or medics, as it were]
...but why? One would think that if they were able to escape with their life, they would not be so eager to risk it again...

We should head back. Unless you wanted to try shooting again.

[she thinks about it. they've been here for some time - maybe they should head back. she nods once.]
...all right.
Thank you, though. For... teaching me.

[did she hear that properly?????
it throws her for such a loop that he is, indeed, able to outrun her, because she's just left gaping after him for a few moments.]
