[He seems satisfied with this, his smile soft and genuine.]
I'm sure he does, and I'm glad that you do, too. Anyway - Wen Ning is taking meticulous care of them, so I'll ask tomorrow if I can get to work on repairing the bodies that aren't in good shape. If it's allowed, I'll let you know and we can help Yin Yu first.
[Flayn breathes out a small sigh of relief. She's seen Wen Ning carry off the dead time and time again - but if he's doing more for them than simply carrying them away, she can breathe a little easier.
[Once someone dies, you can't talk freely with them anymore, or hold their hands, or see their face. And death itself is still a traumatizing thing, even if it may not be "permanent". He thinks of Minako's wounds, Zenitsu's tears. He wonders what Sanji's final moments were like. If he'd worried about Nami - if he saw her follow along at all. He thinks about Yin Yu, and wonders if he had any regrets between Yasusada lifting his blade and his head being severed.
There's something wry in his smile.]
Some things stay the same no matter how many times they happen, I suppose.
[It doesn't really matter if you've lost people in the past. The loss of each new person is its own individual loss - it's different, and it hurts differently, and oftentimes, no matter how prepared for it you think it might be, it still manages to sting.
And what must the victims' final moments have been like...? Having died before - on the island, and having been grievously wounded enough to fall into a thousand-year slumber in the past - she knows it's terrifying, to feel death creeping close and be unable to stop it.
It's unfair. They all deserved better.
...and they still don't really know the truth of what happened to Minako and Zenitsu.]
[all of our conversations are fuckin hilarious in retrospect GUESS THEY HAVE THE TRUTH NOW!!
Wei Wuxian just smiles a little, though - a gentle but sad sort of thing. It really is unfair. It's unfair and unfortunate, and he hates that any of them are subject to this, and he wishes he could do more.
But he's sure it's the same for just about everyone here.]
...We'll do what we can.
[For what little good it may do, at least they can keep trying.]
He scoots over on the bench in case she wants to sit down and join him though, plonking one of the other keys.]
Probably as hard as most instruments. [Which is hard for many people but Wei Wuxian is one of those shits who's just gifted with natural aptitude in most things he decides to do. Hate this man.]
[What the fuck. Is that how he became so good at necromancy? He just decided one day "haha yeah I'm going to do it" and this stupid man is naturally gifted at whatever he touches???
Ugh I'm so mad I have to read TGCF and MDZS after crau is over.
Anyway, Flayn presses another of the piano keys, and then another.]
Let's begin, then! You can pick whichever has the nicest sound to your ear. The bigger ones usually have a deeper pitch and the smaller ones have higher ranges.
Good work! Not bad for your first try. It takes some people ages to get that first note, hah. Anyway - after that, you move your fingers along these holes here to change the sound of the note you're playing. Like this!
[She nods, and makes an attempt at doing just that. Flayn manages to play a few notes, but she still hasn't quite mastered the art of getting sound out of a flute; sometimes she does, and sometimes no sound comes out at all.
She pouts after a few attempts.]
...I got it right before... why can I not do so consistently?
[He looks pretty amused, but he's also a good teacher, unfortunately.]
It takes a long time to get used to blowing the air out exactly as it needs to be. You have to hit it from the right angle, and that angle is quite precise! It's all up to practice and muscle memory. You'll figure out where things need to be in due time.

That will have to be enough for now.]
...thank you, Wei Wuxian.
no subject
[He's very bad at accepting thank yous but he's MAKING A VAGUE EFFORT... His head dips a little.]
...Even knowing they're not gone doesn't make it any easier.
no subject
[And it's terrifying, to think that there's even a small possibility that this might go all wrong. That they might not come back.]

...yes. That is all we can do.
no subject
Anyway he sure does just. Huff out a little laugh, because what else can they do??]
Mm. --Would you like to come try this out with me? [He taps one of the piano keys. TIME FOR A DISTRACTION.]
no subject
Oh... certainly. [she wanders over, then presses one of the keys] ...do you think it would be difficult to learn to play?
no subject
He scoots over on the bench in case she wants to sit down and join him though, plonking one of the other keys.]
Probably as hard as most instruments. [Which is hard for many people but Wei Wuxian is one of those shits who's just gifted with natural aptitude in most things he decides to do. Hate this man.]
It's fun to just make noise with it, though.

Anyway, Flayn presses another of the piano keys, and then another.]
...yes, you are right - it is.
no subject
It's pretty nice! Ah - are there any instruments you do play, though?
no subject
Ah... no, not really. I am not much of a musician.
no subject
He taps out another couple of notes on the key, and then glances toward whatever wall the wood instruments are on.]
Would you be interested in learning a bit? I can't teach you anything on this, but I'm quite good with flutes!
no subject
[IT IS A SHAME THEY AREN'T DOING THIS NEXT WEEK WHEN IT COULD POTENTIALLY COUNT FOR A TASK.]

no subject
Is that so...?
[well
she's small. so it'll probably be easier for her short fingers if she uses a small flute. time to grab one!]
I think this one shall do nicely.
no subject
First, you have to hold it properly! Like this- [He will show her how it's done im too tired to google this help]
no subject
She holds the flute in the same way he demonstrates and then looks over at him.]
And what next?
no subject
[He demonstrates, sounding out a shrill note.]
no subject
Nor does the second.
Third time's the charm, though, and a soft, high sound escapes from the flute as she blows over it.]
...ah!
no subject
Good work! Not bad for your first try. It takes some people ages to get that first note, hah. Anyway - after that, you move your fingers along these holes here to change the sound of the note you're playing. Like this!
