Well, a few places had some form of possession going on. At the castle, people were either bribed or threatened... so maybe it's something like that.

...if it was not before, then... can we truly count on it being a possession, or a compulsion? And if whomever did it was bribed or threatened, who by? Our hosts? Why lie to us about their intentions all this time, if they knew this would happen?
