The ouija board said that it was the bus itself.

[ stephanie is not a nerd, and is so used to dealing with advanced technology and sentient ai that she is just trying not to fall asleep at nerd talk. it's fine. ]

[ shrugs and waves a hand dismissively ]

Any one of the things I mentioned could identify as the bus. The house was a sentient entity too.

Were we actually going that fast, though? Seems like it'd be a little hard to tell from inside it with the windows blacked out.

[ awed by a bus ... well, that probably says something about where he comes from. ]

...Man, why do women never get this stuff. [he's so disappointed. oh well.

ANYWAY. Flayn first, because that was the nicest answer.]

Self-propelled just means something else isn't forcing the motion. A wagon or a horse-drawn carriage aren't self-propelled, for example, but something with a heat-based engine that could generate its own power could, essentially, move itself using its own force or energy. You'd still have to have someone to control where it's going, but propulsion - the act of actually moving - that's the part that would happen all by itself.

[As for the others - don't worry, Steph, he will be enough nerd for the whole cabin.]

Huh. It's news to me. Not that it really changes my mind, either way. I still would have loved to see what it looked like on the outside. Normally, something with that much space and that many people needs to be pretty bulky. I'm just curious how they managed it.

There could be a lot of different reasons for it. Some type of technology, magic...

[ she gestures ]

It's possible. I'm not an expert though.

[ she is technology. if she were awed by it she'd never make it through a single day. ]

Nevermind that the circumstances that have led up to us being in this situation tend to deny conventional logic in the first place. It's not out of the question that the engineering and design of our bus might have been the same.

Geeze... come on, it's the idea of the thing!

[UGGGGH fine he'll drop it]

Flayn seems to be closer to what my world's used to, anyway. There's landships and a couple different aircraft, but most of those are owned by the military. If you're just a regular person, you either walk or take a carriage. Can you blame me for being excited about the idea of more options for public transportation?

[Well, he found his box, which he'll easily lift out of the way. But uh---]

45....

Oh --- You're 45! I was wondering what Akira was talking about!

Wow, you sure seem popular.

[ that's to 45. but steph looks back at flayn. ]

That's true. I'm Stephanie, and I'm coming from a castle that was really into fairy tales?

Ah, he volunteered me for something again, I see.

[ phoenix. her expression is as light as ever, though. ]

But I can assist with mechanical repairs if needed, yes. That said, I don't know why I'm that popular either, at least enough for Akira to be mentioning me to other people...?

[ but, whatever, since they're all introducing themselves anyway: ]

UMP45. Let's all get along from now on, all right~? I'm from the soul-eating mansion infested with monsters.

[god he sure thinks that voice could break glass.... hooooof]

We were actually talking about his girlfriend. Sort of. Mostly just him gushing and me being amused. You came up during the discussion, though. I guess you and she had some stuff in common.

[He drops his box near his bed, opening it up as he keeps talking.]

Anyway. Guy Cecil. I was part of the temple with the twelve gods. [Well. Thirteen, technically, but semantics.]
vigilantics: (get me not.)

[personal profile] vigilantics 2020-06-08 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So we're all from different places... I guess that might encourage bonding?

[ maybe. ]

Do any of you have people who would come barging in here?

I thought I heard one of them say it was random assignment? That's of course if we take their words at face value, but.

[ beat ]

No, I don't think there's anyone who would do that for me.
menially: (god look how amazing)

[personal profile] menially 2020-06-09 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't know how I feel about it being entirely random, either. That's a little too convenient. But there's no way to prove it either direction right now. [He'll shrug, reaching into the box to pull out... a coin? Weird. He'll flick it into the air for a second, catch it, and then tuck it right into one of his pockets for now.]

I have one guy that might decide to come bang down the door if he's feeling extra sour. Thankfully, he's almost always sour as it is, so I don't think he'll care enough most of the time. Besides, if he causes you guys trouble, I'll be more than happy to chew him out.
vigilantics: (let your feelings.)

[personal profile] vigilantics 2020-06-09 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. [ ... ] Hikage would, and he'll be mean about it, but don't pay any attention to him.

[ she just wants to warn them beforehand ]

Or I'll tell him to shoo.

What an effective form of persuasion.

[ he's whipped, isn't he. though, about sleeping well at night... ]

The locks obviously only match our respective keys, but do we know that they're impervious to other methods of trying to get in? The ones in the last place we were at very much weren't when it came down to it, so...
menially: (with your friends in LA ϟ)

[personal profile] menially 2020-06-10 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was the same with the temple. Pretty much everything would unlock after a certain point, so if someone was out when they weren't supposed to, there wasn't a whole lot any of us could do about it. If we really are just repeating events, then I don't expect that door to stay secure forever

[A beat. He exhales, running a hand against the back of his neck.]

Man... for as different as some of our situations were, it's still kind of unsettling to hear the similarities.

[ something something mysterious foggy memory right??? ]

Sounds about right. We were all immediately locked into whatever room we were currently in at the time when the clock struck 11, and like clockwork all immediately lost consciousness at 12, even if we don't normally have to sleep at all.

We also later learned that at 12, all the doors automatically unlocked, so anyone still awake had free reign of the house.
menially: (absolutely)

[personal profile] menially 2020-06-10 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
...Same here, actually, though we didn't have any warning. Once it hit a certain time of night, we all just dropped wherever we were. Unless someone specifically had a power or an item to keep them awake, no one ever woke up until sometime the next morning. It was always on the day someone was found dead, too. Any other time, we could come and go as we pleased, and sleep whenever we felt like it.

[THIS WON'T STOP BEING CREEPY OKAY????]

Our "hosts" this time didn't mention anything about a curfew, did they?
