[so that morning, after the death announcement and the investigations and so on -
flayn has gone to look for dimitri and yin yu. ostensibly, they already dealt with the urge to greet each other with a headpat when they first woke up - but if they didn't, she'll do that first. then, she holds up something about the size of a postcard.]
...I received this, and I found something at the lake. Which should we talk about first?
[ the postcard is no real surprise, so... he nods along. after last week, it's clear they should go into the trials with as clear a picture as possible about everything. ]
Indeed. That's a lead, but it doesn't paint a very clear picture... How frustrating. [ the lake hadn't exactly worked out well for them last time. Neither did footprints. ] What else did you have to tell us, Flayn?
[she holds out the postcard to them so they can each get a look at it. it's a little soggy and stained red in some spots, but mostly legible.
it reads:
"Flayn, I hate it here, (oops, there's a big chunk here's that's smudged beyond repair) But we can watch all of camp from here. So don't screw up."]
...it may be from Ogata. I spoke to him the night before the execution, and he agreed to write if he discovered anything of note wherever the dead end up. [she nods to the smudged part.] I think he may have attempted to do just that.
[they're about the same, she thinks. at least they have this written down so they can try and compare it to what did and didn't come through.]
...even on the island, we were not able to communicate all that we wished to. [she glances to dimitri] If I recall correctly, I believe I vanished from your sight when trying to tell you something there, as well.
[ oof. thinking about flayn ...it's just a reminder of the conversation he had last week with lady steph. it's best not to think about it too much for now. ]
It would make sense. Much like the camp directors can't tell us anything particularly helpful, either, even if they want to.
If it's all the work of these residuals, that makes sense. Flayn was unable to tell me much about— [ her death ] what happened to her, while she was on the otherside.
[ frustrating. ]
...Do you all trust that the directors would tell us the truth, if they could?
They tried to, at the first trial. Black Shadows was willing to try and take on whatever the punishment would have been - they had no way of knowing how that would turn out.
Even so, they're complicit in playing along as much as we are. That board of questions said they had their own rules to follow, too.
[ yin yu is very slow to trust, though the directors have been mostly helpful, so far. it doesn't seem like they want to be harmful, but appearances can be deceiving. ] It's best to try and solve this as much as we can on our own.

Let's start with the lake. [ it will at least be a hint tomorrow, maybe. ] What did you see, Lady Flayn?
no subject
Please go ahead, Flayn.

[she frowns softly]
I did not see any footprints - but if the previous two weeks are any indication, we shall find more there tomorrow if we look.

We will have to be careful of the lake going forward, but it will be imperative to check tomorrow for more.

...Lady Lili received one of these from Master Tsurumaru last week. How strange, that we can communicate with the 'dead'.
[ sure different than the island, huh! ] I wonder if perhaps they can't communicate details to us.

[ is this better or worse than ouija board waka waka-ing? ]
You're likely right though, Yin Yu. It's frustrating—I wish we could communicate with them more clearly. Maybe they have some insight that we do not.
